Set up your voicemail
- Press and hold the 1 key or dial 123 on your device dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.
- During the first time setup, you may be asked for your password. The default is the last four digits of your mobile number.
- After using the default password, create a new password.
- Your password can be any 4 to 7 digit code.
- A good password is one that's easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.
- When prompted, record your greeting and name. Your voicemail is now ready to use.
Settings menu
- To access your voicemail setting menu, press and hold the 1 key or dial 123 on your device dial pad.
- If this doesn't work, dial 1-805-637-7249, enter your 10 digit number and while the voicemail greeting is playing, press * (star key) and enter the password.
- If you're traveling internationally, read our International roaming checklist to learn how to check your messages.

By default, you aren't asked for your password or PIN when checking your voicemail from your device. If you have your outgoing caller ID blocked, you're required to enter your password when you call your voicemail from your device. This is because the voicemail system doesn't recognize your mobile number when it's blocked. T-Mobile recommends that you turn on your voicemail password for added security.

Save and delete messages
Voicemails will be deleted if the auto-save period is reached. The auto-save period can be from 14 to 30 days, depending on the type of voicemail. If you hear "You have (# of vm) voicemail message(s) which is due to automatic deletion..." check out the steps below to save the messages or what to do if you didn't want to delete a message.
After you've listened to your voicemail message, press 9 on the dial pad to save the message. You can repeat this to save the message in your voicemail box before the auto-save period runs out. If you would like to retrieve the saved message and save it to a different location, you'll need to have set up your My T-Mobile account, see the Use voicemail on a computer steps below. You can save a voicemail if it is less than 30 days from the day it was originally left or when it was saved.
If you're listening to your voicemail and delete it, don't hang up that call! A voicemail message can only be retrieved before the same call is disconnected. Once the call has ended there is no way to retrieve the deleted voicemail message.
BlackBerry or Windows Phone messages
The migration will automatically delete any voicemail messages over 30 days old, played, unplayed, or saved, from the old platform. The voicemail platform migration is bringing an improved and updated experience to T-Mobile voicemail. Save your messages before the migration to prevent automatic deletion.
To prevent losing your messages, you must forward or save them before the migration starts, by following these steps.
Forward messages
All Devices, if voicemail is less than 30 days old:
- Press and hold the 1 key or dial 123 on your device dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.
- Listen to the message you want to forward.
- Once the message has played, press 6 on your device dial pad to listen to more options, then press 2 to forward the message.
- Enter in the 10 digit number you wish to forward the message to and press #. Additional 10 digit numbers can be entered. Once complete, press #. The message has been forwarded.
BlackBerry
- BlackBerry 10: In the BlackBerry Hub or the Phone app, touch and hold a voicemail message.
- BlackBerry 7 or older: In the Visual Voicemail app, touch and hold a voicemail message.
- Tap Save As.
- Select the location, and tap Save.
Windows Phone
Unfortunately, Windows Phone doesn't have any way to back up voice mail messages - you could play them back via speakerphone and record them using the mic on a laptop or PC or you can follow the Save instructions above if the message is less than 30 days old.
